y'all, the Bible doesn't mean you can't wear braids nowadays..;-;... the Bible was talking about how back in those days, the prositutse around the temple wore braids, so it was telling those people back then, well the women, to not be like prostitutes

if you watch the video that was reacted to fully you can tell that they weren’t trying to say braids were ungodly and they were just explaining that people during that time normally saw people who wore braids and pearls as prostitutes
I’ve just seen a lot of comments about it that I feel like misrepresent what they were trying to say in the video (which I already assumed what happen hence why I watched it before I watched this reaction to it)
just wanted to say something about it and I know I didn’t explain it very well, but I think they explain it in their video better anyways

As a Christian, I would say you were pretty respectful to us and our religion in this video. I personally don’t believe makeup is a sin. I understand that many of the people in your lgbt community have felt mistreated by Christian’s, so to be so kind and respectful to us means a lot. I’m sorry for anyone who has been offended by the people in my religion.

In my experience, religious people are either the kindest, nicest people or the worst. Many of us have had really bad experiences with religion, and I just wish that certain denominations were more aware of the actual harm they do, especially to young kids.
But at the end of the day, I respect that people have different religious beliefs. I do not respect bigotry, and that's what makes it hard with certain denominations.

the whole mindset of acting like you’re superior to prostitutes is such a gross concept 💀 it’s a job and rather than persecuting them we should be protecting them. Nobody chooses prostitution as their first choice career. It’s pretty much always the only option for them and it’s very dangerous too.

    • Lunar Aurora
Lunar Aurora Hace 27 días +7

Here in the Netherlands we have the famous Red Light District in Amsterdam, where prostitution is in fact allowed and the people doing their jobs are protected. They’re safe, and can still perform the job if they want, they’re not forced against their will or anything. Other countries could take a look and think “hey, maybe it’s not so bad”

My body, my choice. The best part? Every Christian I know is insanely judgmental. Like I was told I was indecent because I had on a maxi dress with a high neck halter. It's super interesting to watch these reactions to Girl Defined because everyone tries to be as respectful as possible to Christians at the beginning and as soon as it becomes clear what the channel is really doing, all respect for it is out the window :)
And rightfully so. I used to be a Christian and I was raised in a very progressive family but in a very conservative catholic community. I was raised with "Question the bullshit that hurts people but let the bullshit that doesn't slide. You're surrounded by them, pick your battles".
Religion has been used to demonize, control and oppress women for as long as religion has been around and Girl Defined is far from the worst of it. It still needs to be called out. Let women wear whatever they feel pretty in.

@Gaming With Zoey tv! Females did wear braids back then because they had to scrub the floors and look after the children so they did wear braids cuz it would've gotten in the way of their work... And back in Victorian times they wore their hair Up so just saying. Loose luscious locks are very new. Braided hair or up do's or cut short was kind of the trendy in the past like Victorian or Elizabethaan or even the 30s. It was merely the trend.

    • Queen
      Queen Hace 2 años +9

@Amby you said the word always has a stigma because "it is used in a derogatory way, it is vulgar" (literally your own words). But what people are trying to tell you is that in drag community the term is not vulgar and is not used in a derogatory manner. Get it?
I do believe that the girls would be upset hearing this because in their community it is still an insult. But in Trixie's side it isn't.
So, Trixie didn't mean it as an insult because in her community it isn't and insult. But the girls have the right to feel insulted, but you cant say it was Trixie's intention.
Now what is it that you didn't get?

I have Muslim neighbours and they struggle with the makeup question all the time because the whole point of Muslim modest dress is to keep the male gaze away. Like putting a napkin over a delicious piece of cheesecake, lol. But the ladies want to look cute so they wear makeup and cute scarves and bedazzle their abayas! And the argument goes round and round...

I love how they tried explaining that the verse about the pearls and braids was just directed at the christian women from that time, suggesting that the whole bible was directed towards christian people of the time and therefore outdated. it just doesn’t make sense how they can read scriptures to tell you what to do in present time but as soon as they put braids in their hair they can justify it by saying “oh that verse was just about the women from the past not us!”
    make it make sense.

All jokes aside, it's a great thing to teach men and women to embrace their natural beauty. And to not make anyone feel ashamed for wanting to enhance their beauty. Modest beauty would mean to not fundamentally alter yourself, but to pamper and care for your body and show the delight that is your face and curves, such as they are.

  • Savannah Wise

There are some denominations that found scripture to say that women shouldn't wear makeup at all! There really is a lot of cherrypicking when it comes to this stuff, but it's interesting to see everyone's interpretations on the matter.

I remember doing the makeup of my high school History teacher, and I was like 18 [naive] that time, I was already in college , came home to do her makeup on her big day. So I applied this really red lipstick and suddenly I heard murmurs. It turns out, one of her older brothers didn't like the red lipstick [too whorey] I put and asked me to erase it and put something subtle. This was 13 years ago when pink lipstick shades wasn't still a thing!
